I went to a Pro-Life meeting last night in our County and came away feeling a little ambivalent about it. They are part of the National Right to Life. Anyway, I got there late with a friend of mine and was surprised to see who I saw. If it wasn't for quite a few new people, there would have only been one female at this meeting and several men, mainly older.
These folks are highly committed to the pro-life movement and do not mean them any disrespect with this post at all. I am just surprised, no not really, but I guess disappointed, that there weren't more women involved. And there weren't any black, hispanic, or any other minority group there.
These guys also don't have a webpage, no blog, no way of reaching out more to others on the Internet. So we discussed getting the word out there more that way. I'm glad that the new folks coming in are going to be able to get this group going even more. Recruit some young people, females, and minority groups.
I heard a startling statistic last night: 9 out of 11 black women who get pregnant abort their babies. I think he arrived at that statistic with the information that black people, or African Americans, make up 12% of the population, and receive 35% of the abortions. He did some math and came up with the ratio of 9:11.
Also startling: 1 out of 3 women who find out they're pregnant get abortions. That is a lot of babies dying and a lot of women who get hurt.
There was a man there also from 40 Days for Life to talk to us. That was VERY cool! It was kind of surreal. I found out about 40 Days during the election and kind of did my own thing until the 40 days was up. This guy is looking for volunteers!! WOW!! This is very exciting. Essentially, for 40 days, volunteers pray outside of an abortion clinic. They not only pray that abortion will end there, but that God will be with those mothers and children as they go through with their decision to abort. They are there for 40 days. Very powerful.
There are other things we can do too. Door-to-door, novenas, praying, fasting... anything your life will allow. So if you're interested in doing this with us, and there isn't a group in your area, let me know. The dates are February 25- April 5. During that time, I will most likely be fasting and praying, and blogging of course. I may even do some of the vigil, not sure about door-to-door. We will have to see what my schedule allows, and hubby! :)
Speaking the Truth
We don’t like to speak the truth about evil because we’re going to hurt somebody. Let me tell you, you are going to hurt somebody, but that Somebody is God. If you would rather hurt God than your neighbor, there is something wrong with your spirituality. It’s your obligation to speak the truth and everyone can either take it or leave it. But truth must be in us. We live in such poverty of the truth today.

"I heard a startling statistic last night: 9 out of 11 black women who get pregnant abort their babies."
I think it was for every 11 live births in the Black population, 9 babies are also aborted.
And this is a site they shared for more info,
http://www.abortionno.org/abortion_no.html
Thanks for posting!
The statistics are startling, and I fear it will only get worse with the current administration!
Not to nit pick, but k, I tried to search for your quote of "the blacks" and I can't find that in this post.
Here are a couple of sites and the statistics I found:
http://www.blackgenocide.org/home.html
There is a a bar graph on the following link under the video called Happy Birthday that approximates the amount of deaths of African Americans since 1973. The resource is from the CDC's site.

Janet L. Andrews and Joyceen S. Boyle record the familiar statistic -- "currently the abortion rate for African American women is more than three times the rate of abortion for European American women" (430) -- and cite research conducted in 2002 by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of the largest abortion provider in the nation, Planned Parenthood. The National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund succinctly supplies abortion figures for both the African-American and Hispanic ethnic groups. In a flyer titled "Abortion's Impact on Minorities" the group notes that 263,911 abortions were performed in 2000 on Hispanic-American women, who "represented 12.8% of the U.S. population of women of child-bearing age" but "accounted for 20.1% of all abortions performed that year". Similarly, 416,218 abortions were performed in 2000 on African-American women, who "represented 13.7% of the U.S. population of women of child-bearing age" but "accounted for 31.7% of all abortions performed that year". The group cites the census Bureau and the Alan Guttmacher Institute as sources for these race-based statistics.
If you google Black Americans for life, you will find many pages with info.
As something I found while perusing the pages, this is such a crazy title for a brochure when you read the information it contains:
http://www.prochoice.com/abortion_safe.html
A Planned Parenthood brochure entitled PLAN YOUR CHILDREN for Health and Happiness says, "An abortion kills the life of a baby after it has begun. It is dangerous to your life and health. It may make you sterile so that when you want a child you cannot have it."
I hope you all have a wonderful night.
oh and another statistic:
Abortions are very common. In fact, more than 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old.

Hi K, I'm glad you came to visit my site. I didn't say "the blacks" I said "blacks." I didn't feel this was rude because they are black people are they not? And they don't all call themselves African American. So really, I was trying to do just the opposite and not offend them by calling them something they don't want to be called. I guess you can't please everyone. And I made a mistake. I should have put up the sites that they referenced at the meeting. It looks like wsmiles did that for me. Thanks!
I also found a site with some stats: http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_induced_abortion.html.
Maybe I didn't portray my feelings of ambivalence well. I was wishing there were more women at this meeting, more African American women, more Hispanic women, more WOMEN. I wanted to get the stats out there so others know what they are and realize how much we are destroying our children. These stats are startling and it can feel offensive to hear the truth. When I was pro-choice, I didn't consider myself pro-abortion because I didn't think abortion was right, but I knew I didn't want to do it myself. But I didn't want to get in the way of others' "right" to do it. Now it's different for me. Would I stand by and allow someone to murder a young child standing right in front of me? No, I would not. So I really want to get the facts out there about abortion, because I don't believe it's something we should ignore any longer.
